Indian FTR 2023 – Punching Well Above Its Weight!

When Indian motorcycles first released the FTR, for many it was a total departure for the American motorcycle scene, however in reality it was merely building on from the pacier traditions of the past and Indian really needed to pack a punch to muscle out the H-D XR1200 but also grab the attention of street riders more accustomed to Japanese sportier bikes.

Whilst it raised eyebrows in many circles, it also grabbed many admirers too, not necessarily for its looks but rather how it performed in real world riding and the usable performance it provided to the rider.

According to Indian Motorcycles The FTR is:

“Designed for riders to cut loose and enjoy the pure sport of motorcycling, the FTR is a totally unique take on American V-twin performance. With an unmistakable, muscular style, the FTR truly is an American original”

For 2023 the FTRs have also has some updates too but notably the FTR Sport has been released in preference to the previous offering of the FTR-S.

The updates include:

A retuned front braking system provides a firmer feel

A new clutch improves feel and performance

All speedometers were moved up for easier viewing

All models are now standard with a new sport exhaust muffler

Indian further go on to state:

“New for 2023, the FTR Sport, FTR Rally and FTR R Carbon are upgraded with a 101 mm round touchscreen display powered by RIDE COMMAND with navigation*. Three ride modes (Sport, Standard, Rain) provide unique performance experiences for varying preferences and riding conditions, while Lean Angle Sensitive Stability Control and ABS provide confident, predictable handling in all conditions.

The FTR R Carbon separates itself as the premium offering with carbon fibre components, premium seat, fully adjustable Öhlins gold front forks and a gold piggyback shock. The iconic Indian Script logo tank panels are exclusive to the FTR R Carbon, which is finished with classy Cloud Silver and Championship Gold pinstriping”

With a whole host of new accessories for 2023, there is a lot to admire about the FTR range…so much so I will be test riding one next week for my own pleasure, but it also doesn’t hurt that Indian are giving away a special custom Sebastien Loeb FTR…only 1 of 2 to have been made, if any of their FTRs are test ridden.

With such a great reputation and never a bad word said about them from any rider owner I have spoken to in the past, this test ride should be one to remember for sure…
