Where shall I ride today? | Adventures within 20miles of Home!

It won’t be long before the ice melts and the snow was but a distant memory…or in our case a very long time ago…and you’ll be thinking of dusting off the bike that’s been sat in garage for the winter and will want to venture out to go seek your thrills.

Whilst the big open road calls to all of us, I would hesitate on jumping on the bike and heading out on a long adventure with the first day of Spring…and this has nothing to do with rider rust but more to do with seeing what there is to see in your local area first.

A couple of weeks ago I was riding along some roads I had not ridden for a while in my local town. These roads once held motorcycle accessory shops, motorcycle dealers and workshops but not anymore. So as time passes so does the landscape change either within the urban environment and also in the back woods too.

I often just get on the bike and go ride the roads not ridden for a while, just really to see what has changed but also to look a little closer at the details of the buildings or find some cool spots I’d not seen before. In short I open my eyes to explore what is around me. Sometimes I’ll find new routes to ride, or new buildings to explore…and on occasion when I just ‘Look Up’ towards the rooftops I enter a world full of history and realise that the present I stand within has come a long way further from the past preceding it.

The same can be said of going out into the countryside and riding the very minor roads or trails if you’re allowed to. I remember riding on many trails within 20 miles of my home and was always taken aback by the natural beauty that was on my doorstep.

I have written and made videos for many videos on this very topic. You don’t necessarily need the great global tour to have adventure, as you can do it on your own terms and when time constraints are an issues, then having local explorations can be just as excitng too.

When not riding, I do spend a good amount of time looking at maps for interesting places to go ride to or look for new routes to ride. Most of my time is limited due to life pressures so getting out on a day for a few hours and seeing something new is all I really care for and when I come across something really cool to take a photo of, make a video about or just enjoy for myself…then it’s all been worthwhile.

So if you’re at a loss for anywhere to ride or you’d love to do the big adventure but really cant afford the time or the expense, then try exploring you’re local area more and more. You’ll be surprised at what you find when do.
