We’ve all heard about the comfort qualities of a Harley and specifically the armchair like seating…but is that really the case.
Well, yes and no. It really depends which Harley model you ha r and specifically which seat too.
There are specific touring seats with extra padding for comfort in those long rides of course but is a standard Harley seat any good on an endurance ride.
You see and endurance ride is totally different to a touring ride. Endurance riding is continuous long distance riding with momentary and minimal breaks in between.
1000 miles plus in a day but depending on the type of roads and traffic density, this can actually be a lot more.
In fact on one of my endurance rides around the UK in 24hrs I covered 1450 but that was hell on earth and not only was there extreme soreness of the backside but also cramping in the legs and back too.
At the end of it, everything hurt and it was a test of willpower and single focus just to get the ride done.
Fast forward now to a new Harley in totally standard configuration and I’m wondering whether it would make for a good long distance ride and endurance trip.
Whilst the seating is comfortable, it is by no means an armchair. In fact I’ve already been told that an hour in that seat is more than anyone should ever do but I aim to put this to the test.
I am currently planning my next endurance ride around the UK which I’ll cover in one continuous ride, only stopping for fuel and comfort breaks.
The trip will aim to ride to the furthest points of mainland Great Britain on the cardinal headings of North, South, East and West.
I shall put this seat to the ultimate test and see if my body can withstand the pounding it will undoubtedly take.
