Cornejo wins Stage 9 Dakar 2022

Another stage win for JOSE IGNACIO CORNEJO FLORIMO from Chile riding the Honda making it tow stage wins on this year’s Dakar.

Kevin Benavides again on the KTM came in 2nd and now is 5th overall with a mere 10:22min deficit. Whilst Ricky Brabec another sterling effort came in 3rd only 1:47min off the lead time.

KTM rider Walkner came in 4th, with Honda’s Barreda Bort in 5th. Yamaha’s Andrew Short 6th, Husqvarna’s Luciano Benavides 7th, Honda’s Quintanilla 8th, Van Beveren 9th with Polish rider MACIEJ GIEMZA on the Husqvarna bring up the rear in 10th but only 6:40min off the lead time.

Brit Sam Sunderland ended the day 14th and some 8:03min off the lead, whilst KTM’s Toby Price 17th and 8:35min off the winning pace.

The field is so close this year and not much is to choose between them, which makes the overall standings change daily and only by split times.

KTM Matthias Walkner now leads 2:12min ahead of Gas Gas Sam Sunderland with Yamaha Van Beveren back into 3rd 3:56min behind.

All guns blazing tomorrow where we can expect Sam Sunderland to punch forward again as he is not the first rider out on the special section between Wadi Ad Dawasir and Bisha.
