Pikes Peak Death not Mechanical Fault

At the 97th running of the famed Pikes Peak Challenge in Colorado Springs in the USA this year, hot favourite to win the exhibition motorcycle class, Carlin Dunne lost his life on the very last bend before the finish line and the cause was under investigation.

Riding his Ducati StreetFighter V4 he had led the qualifying times prior to the actual day of racing and was poised to take the title on the 30th June in the Race To The Clouds event, however tragedy struck when it appears he high sided the machine on the last turn.

After careful inspection of the bike, there appeared to be an absence of any mechanical fault or failure and the tragic death is assumed to be down to rider error. A talent that will be missed both on and off the race track.
