The laws addressing UK number plates for cars, motorcycles…in fact all vehicles is being changed for 2027.
Whilst there are existing strict restrictions on the size of plate, characters and the distance in between, there are also opportunities to flout the rules.
Drivers and riders might use all manner of tactics to avoid being registered by a road traffic camera or just adopting customised sizes, letter and number sizes but the long arm of the law is always there able to spot illegal plates and take appropriate action.
However the new proposals are less directed at the drivers and riders but more to seek out those businesses producing and selling illegal plates. Time will tell whether this will have any affect or will deter the suppliers and users of illegal registration plates.
