It is no secret that there is a revolution taking place in the motorcycle world and it comes in the form of volts and amps. The electric variants that motorcycle manufacturers are starting to develop or move into production has gathered pace, performance is making quantum leaps year in year out…and now that stalwart of Americana has tossed it’s hat into the ring too.
The Harley Davidson Livewire project has been in development for some years now and even a couple of years ago, the early bike was being test ridden by industry bods and potential customers with some amazing reactions.
There is no doubt the bike will demonstrate instant awesome power and torque that is synonymous with the conventional brand but this is a huge deviation off track from the American motorcycle manufacturer.
With a hefty price tag starting at £28995 in the UK, that is somewhat more expensive than other market leaders such as Zero, albeit the bikes are beyond comparison and this will aim to entice existing Harley riders off of their expensive V-Twins and onto electric drive.
Harley have been quite canny with their approach to this bike. They have been drip feeding the potential customer base for some time and building favour in unlikely places too.
Now the bike is set for general release in September and would be owners can pre order now if they do wish, however there are few opportunities to have dealership test rides at this moment but the stats alone may mean that certain customers may forgive that luxury.
Zero to 60mph in 3 secs!
144miles range or 88miles open road!
Onboard level 1 charger for overnight charging or level 3 for 80% charge in 40mins/100% in 60mins
Whilst the range is an issue, the charging time is favourable but still nowhere near where the conventional rider would need it to be, however that being said the design is impressive and will surely attract admirers straight away…and I’m one of them already.
Can’t wait to ride it!
