Many auto manufacturers in India have been facing troubling times of late, and the latest to suffer the economic slump is Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India – HMSI
Already June sales are down 16.5% on June 2018 which equates to just under 100,000 units less than the 571,020 sold last term.
Must of the reasoning is due to rising consumer costs and increased insurance premiums being demanded from the insurance companies.
However they are not alone, Hero Moto Corp, TVS and Bajaj Auto also saw high percentage dips in sales, although Suzuki did show an increase by 29% in June sales but the figures are barely comparable as their total June sales were only 67,491.
Honda have just launched their new scooter for the market: the Honda Activa 125 BS VI which it hopes will restore figures to record highs when it is finally released later this year.
These scooters and low capacity motorcycles are the mainstay of the Asian markets and Honda like all others will be impressing upon their teams to push hard to have a successful launch but they’ll also be hopeful of an upturn in the domestic economic and more favourable insurance premiums for all, especially for the young and inexperienced.
