Harley Davidson are set to enter the Chinese motorcycle market with a much lower capacity engine that many Harley enthusiasts would ever imagine possible.
The new concept machine is set to enter the Chinese market only, in 2020 with a 338cc engine and working in collaboration with Chinese manufacturer: Qianjiang Motorcycle.
Harley Davidson President and CEO: Matt Levatich has commented that the company has always gained inspiration from motorcycle riders from around the world.
The company’s ‘More Roads’ action plan purpose is to spread the HD freedom branding around the globe and to develop emerging markets in which the company has not had a significant presence…perhaps with the 338, this is set to change.
Initially being marketed in China, the overall intention is to develop other markets in Asia, such as India which has a rich heritage of motorcycling and might very well welcome the smaller cc HD variant…although it would be some feat to overcome the major brand players firmly entrenched there.
From the concept drawing released by Harley, this looks like a machine for the street and they would do well to not only look to Far Eastern markets but also look into European countries too, especially as an entry level machine for younger riders.
